Grammy-winning R&B and soul singer D’Angelo, who burst into the spotlight and helped pioneer the neo-soul genre, has died at 51 after a “prolonged and courageous battle with cancer,” his family said. D’Angelo’s 2000 album “Voodoo” debuted at No.1 on the Billboard charts, winning the Grammy for Best R&B album that year and getting heavy rotation on MTV and BET.
